Selecting camera resolution requires balancing identification requirements against network capacity and recording retention budgets. Practical deployment involves evaluating specific operational areas before assigning hardware:
- 1080p Full HD (1920x1080): Provides reliable general surveillance for indoor rooms, small offices, and standard entryways where extreme digital magnification is unnecessary.
- 2K or 4MP (2560x1440): Delivers greater pixel density for wide hallways and parking areas, allowing operators to read signage and identify vehicle attributes from moderate distances.
- 4K Ultra HD (3840x2160): Maximizes digital cropping potential across broad perimeter zones, critical gates, and retail points of sale without severe pixelation.
Bandwidth, Storage, and Resolution Tradeoffs
Increasing pixel counts directly increases data throughput.
