What is Stripe?

In short

A payment processor that handles card payments for a site, so the card entry runs on the processor's checkout.

Stripe is a payment processor. A site that uses it hands card entry to the processor's hosted checkout, so card details are entered on Stripe's pages rather than on the site's own form. On a payment list, Stripe usually sits alongside credit card, crypto and PayPal, which tells a reader that the card route is handled by that processor. Scrile Connect is the clearest example here: it takes credit card, crypto, Stripe, PayPal, CCBill, NetBilling and PayId19 within credit card, crypto and Stripe. The trade-off is that the processor decides which cards and regions it accepts, and readers see its name on the payment step.
